The Old Boys recently hosted its inaugural Business Breakfast where a large audience of Old Boys and local prominent business representatives came to listen to guest speaker Rob Robson. An Old Boy himself, Rob (Class of 1963) told the story of his journey after deciding to follow in his father’s footsteps in the fresh produce industry. The audience enjoyed hearing how he went from working in his father’s business to becoming the founder of the national fresh produce giant ‘One Harvest.’ His career involved much research overseas and personal investment, building a variety of different business’ which eventually culminated in ‘One Harvest’. Now retired, Rob still has an active interest in the company and had the guests intrigued with the variety of facts and figures that are involved with a business of national scale. His two sons Sam Robson (Class of 1992) and Tom Robson (Class of 1994), also Old Boys themselves, are now running the company continuing the family legacy.
It was encouraging to see the large number of Old Boy attendees from a variety of different eras share in the experience and also take the opportunity to network with each other on the day. It was also a great experience for a select number of current students including Rob’s grandson, the chance to talk to past students of their school and realise that they are to become part of a very select and supportive network of men upon their graduation. The school is already fielding questions as to when the next event will be held and the Old Boys are very pleased to have this addition to the yearly calendar of events.
