Charity cricket match a great success

On Monday January 28, the main field at the IGS sporting fields at Brassall was a hive of activity as the highly anticipated match between the 2019 First XI and the IGS Old Boys took place. The inaugural game was well supported by the IGS community and a great afternoon of cricket with the younger 7A’s taking on the 8A’s in a trial match before the main contest.

The Old Boys batted first in fantastic conditions for cricket and amassed a total of 225 from their 20 overs with Nathan Reardon (Class of 2002) the standout, blasting 108 which included some devastating sixes. The First XI were gallant in reply but unfortunately fell short of the required total, scoring 138 off their 20 overs against an Old Boys attack full of Brisbane Premier Grade players and former QLD representatives.

The match also acted as a fundraiser to support the McGrath Foundation. Every 4 and 6 that was hit earned $5 for the McGrath Foundation donated by our generous sponsors. In total there were 42 boundaries hit throughout the day, added to the gold coin donations, a total of $1658 was raised for the McGrath Foundation.
